Structural concrete overlays in bridge deck rehabilitation : preliminary results

Preliminary results are presented on the influence of the contact surface preparation on the structural behavior of the bridge deck rehabilitated with a full depth structural concrete overlay. The horizontal shear problem and the effectiveness of rebar dowels crossing the interface are discussed. Together with a comprehensive literature and design practice review, preliminary design guidelines for the design of structural concrete overlays are formulated.
